Daniel is 5 years old!
In accordance with our birthday traditions last night I hung up the birthday bunting and set out the birthday king’s throne in his celestial starry night castle. I placed his birthday cards on a little table and laid his gifts beneath it. Finally I placed his Steiner Waldorf Birthday Crown on the table and turned out the light.
And this morning at a very respectable 6:50am the 5 year old birthday king took up his place on that throne and carefully placed his crown on his head. Birthday King Daniel was finally five! ![]()
The birthday king then had his choice of breakfast – FIVE homemade vanilla & raisin birthday muffins eaten in a local Costa at 8am no less! But not before the lighting of a candle in each muffin and a first rendition of the day of ‘Happy Birthday’ from Mum & Dad (with Dad playing guitar accompaniment!).
On our return we stopped briefly at the graveyard to place late sweet peas (one of Grandad’s favourites) and marigolds (both picked from our garden) in memory of Grandad who also was born on November 4th and so shared this special day. Happy Birthday Dad. We were delighted to spot a rainbow in the sky which Daniel insisted was actually Grandad saying ‘Happy Birthday’ to him and who are we to argue.
Visits with gifts from Grandma and Auntie Beth with Heather and David followed and Daniel settled in to enjoy his new toys.
Before we knew it it was time to load the car with party fare and head off!
Dan couldn’t wait to get at the food!
He had loads of fun with his friends and beamed with happiness from start to finish!
The lighting of the cake felt like a really magical moment. One I’ll certainly never forget!

Finally everyone went home happily clutching their Steiner Waldorf inspired party bags. For more details see http://dayswithdaniel.wordpress.com/2011/11/05/homemade-steiner-waldorf-party-bags/
On the way home Daniel declared that it was the best party ever and that’s good enough for me!
A very tired, but happy and contented little boy tumbled into bed and Mum & Dad weren’t long to follow!
Happy Birthday Daniel!
