To show how grateful we were to everyone that came to Daniel’s 5th birthday party yesterday we made party bags. This in itself was not unusual but we didn’t want the usual mixture of plastic and sugar so we thought long and hard about what to include.
This is what we came up with ….
-
We used a simple brown paper bag with handles decorated with Dan’s handprint to show 5 fingers – one for each year of his life!
-
A pure wool knitted pony with needle-felted mane and tail and stuffed with raw sheep’s wool.
-
Marigold seeds – collected by Dan from the Marigolds in our garden (which were grown from seeds collected by my late father last year).
-
Sunflower seeds – collected by Dan from Sunflowers in our garden (which were grown from seeds given to us by Dan’s cousin, Heather)
-
Homemade Rainbow Play Dough – dyed with Kool-Aid this looked beautiful and smelled divine!
-
2 Different shaped balloons
-
A tumblestone treasure (some Turquoise Agate and some Green Aventurine) contained in a little wooden box (below).
-
A little round wooden lidded box (to contain the tumblestone treasure above) with a picture of a frog on the top.
-
We also popped in a satsuma at the last minute which isn’t shown in the photograph.
They looked lovely all lined up ready to hand out and it felt wonderful giving a little bit of handmade love to each child. You can read more about Daniel’s special day at http://dayswithdaniel.wordpress.com/2011/11/04/five-times-around-the-sun/
